Getting started
- Download installation package
There are two installation packages available for download - full installation with all shared libraries including files required by MS Jet 3.5 and 4.0 (file size ~12MB) and minimum installation with basic libraries (file size ~3.5MB). For most of the systems, minimum installation should suffice.
- Install WhizBase using setup utility
To install WhizBase simply double click the downloaded file and follow the setup instructions displayed on the screen. WhizBase is a hypertext pre-processor. Its purpose is to run behind web server and double clicking on the wbsp.exe file will produce no effects.
- Configure local web server (download and install it if necessary)
WhizBase works with most Windows®-based web servers including IIS, Apache, Xitami, OmniHTTPd, Netscape Servers, Abyss Web Server, MicroWeb. In case you do not have a local web server already installed, we would suggest to you to download one of the above (simply click the server name to open download page). Instructions for configuring web servers are available in WhizBase Documentation.
- Download file bibliomdb.zip and unpack it inside document root directory of your local web server.
Nearly all examples included in documentation use databases included in this archive. This archive does not contain database of the same name (biblio.mdb) that comes with Microsoft® Access.
- Open WhizBase PowerPack and create WhizBase reports and forms.
Using WhizBase PowerPack Wizards is the easiest way to make your database web based (either on the Internet or on the intranet). It takes only few mouse clicks to make WhizBase work for you. It is also a very good way to start learning WhizBase. In addition to this, WhizBase documentation contains many examples (in chapters Getting started, How to, Report tags, Functions, etc.) and the best way to explore the full capacities of WhizBase is by using these code snippets.
